Ja nach Alter des Macs ist das unnötig, alles ab Skylake (also 6. Gen ca. 2015) hat in der CPU eine H.265/HEVC Encoder Unterstützung

Für das reine Schneiden von Videos die bereits h.265 sind, ist das sowieso egal, da dabei nicht neu kodiert wird.
Liegen die Videos noch in h.264 vor, hast Du keinen Vorteil von h.265 außer daß das kleiner ist. Aber dafür hast Du dann Verluste beim Umkodieren.
